Wireless digital transmission for CCTV cameras

Wireless digital transmission means placing the signal (video, audio, data) in electromagnetic wave using an OFDM modulation (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing). It works on the basis of simultaneous transmission of multiple signals on orthogonal carrier frequency. This helps in effective use of the radio spectrum and increasing the data transmission rate. Instead of a single high-speed data, it transmits a lot of slower streams at different wavelengths - subcarriers (more in the article about wireless technology). This technology is used in CCTV surveillance systems, industrial television channels and Internet access technology ADSL and DVB-T.

 

The advantages of digital transmission in the CCTV systems

Digital systems, compared with analogue systems are characterized by much higher resistance to external interference and the ability to transmit a lot more information in an instant. This makes it perfectly fulfill their role in wireless security camera systems, deployed in production or assembly halls, and other places where there are significant electromagnetic interference.

Wireless transmission for IP Cameras

For some time analogue systems are being replaced by systems based on digital IP camera. This solution allows you to send the image in a much better quality (HD). However, the picture even with the best security camera may lose its high quality, if the other system components will not be able to process it properly.

 

The solution is our CDS-5IP designed to transmit a signal from IP cameras, providing the possibility of wireless video and sound transmission in HD, as well as digital  PTZ IP camera control (PTZ - Pan Tilt Zoom). The transmission is performed at a frequency of 5 GHz 1W (30 dBi). It is designed to operate with cameras with resolutions up to 5 megapixels. It has an integrated MIMO antenna, which allows to transmit the signal up to 2 km. The device has two RP-SMA connectors to which you can connect the antenna to increase range up to 5 km.

CDS-5IP – application example

Wireless CCTV monitoring system  CDS-5IP can be used even in very complex security systems. Below is an example of one of them.


In high building No. 1 there is a monitoring center for residential buildings using the CDS-5IP devices for video transmission.

The image from multi-level parking 2A, shopping center 2B, health center clinics 2C and 2D, can not be sent directly to the center of the observation 1. because of the obstacle - a tall building number 2, which completely blocks radio signals from the transmitters.

The radio receiver CDS-5IP Rx with omnidirectional antenna located on the building 2 receives signals from the transmitting devices in locations 2A, 2B , 2C and 2D. Then, the signal from the RX is wire hooked to a transmitter Tx, from which information is transmitted directly to the receiver Rx 1 on the building.

The signal from the pitch 3A, sports hall 3B and parking 3C is transmitted via radio transmitters Tx to receiver Rx office 3, the signal wired to the next transmitter is sent to a receiver located at the control center.

Thanks to the use of CDS-5IP to install IP video surveillance, wireless cameras are no longer necessary.

CDS-5IP – connection schema
As you can see in the diagram below the device in the series CDS-5IP allow you to connect two IP cameras. One camera connected directly to the Ethernet port located in in the transmitting device. The second camera socket is connected to Ethernet cable for both transmitting a signal from the second camera and power supply. This is possible due to implementation of PoE (Power over Ethernet).

CDS-5021h STR is a modern and cost-effective solution created for the purpose of use during the design professional systems such as CCTV. Encrypted transmission and very high reliability makes the system perfectly suited to urban surveillance systems. In addition, excels in areas where there are power lines, wireless internet networks and where full visibility of optical antennas can not be maintained.

Another advantage of this system is easiness to run, which needs only an appropriate antennas focus, connecting the signals from the cameras and power. The units (transmitter and receiver) will automatically search the available frequencies (if you operate in the DFS) or set on the chosen by the user (manual channels mode).

Wireless image transmission

One of the applications of radio transmission system - CDS-5021h STR is to use it for lifting devices, that is in places where the device optical visibility is strongly reduced.

Receivers Rx transmit the video signal to the crane operator's cockpit 1.  It is displayed on the monitors, thus it gives the possibility to observe what happens under the jib  2 and along the path of the crane 3 . This type of supervision ensures safe and precise loading of the goods.

CDS-5021 Series devices has been specifically designed to enable high-quality signal transmission, even in places with strong Interference. Embedded watchdog function enables continuous supervision over the proper operation of the system.

The monitoring system at railway stations

CDS-5021h STR has increased resistance to interference, allowing you to use the system, for example at the railway station. One of such applications is presented below.

Platforms surveillance cameras are connected to the transmitters that send signals to receivers located on the trains. These receivers send the signal to monitors in the train, which allows the driver to have a preview of the video on platforms so you can be sure that it is safe to enter the station.
